Before answering this question, it is essential to describe the conformation of a filter plate and fully understand its characteristics.

The filter plates are divided into two macro categories:

-Recessed plates (CONCAMERATE)

-Membrane plates

And they are usually chosen based on the type of process and sludge to be dewatered.

RECESSED plates are fixed volume plates. Paired together they form a series of chambers which

they will be filled with sludge during the filtration phase.

Membrane plates, on the other hand, are variable volume filtration media. The variability of the volume is entrusted to a flexible membrane (in polypropylene or EPDM) moved by water or compressed air. We will see in the section relating to squeezing, the detailed operation of this device and its use.
