Let us now analyse another accessory of the plate filter presses: the optional “Double Feeding” – also called double feeding.
The dual power supply is a device that is always recommended (if not mandatory) to install with long filter presses
By long filter presses we mean machines typically with a number of plates greater than 50 or sometimes even just 40 (however, it depends on the fluid being treated).
This solution is used to ensure that the sludge feed into the plates takes place uniformly in both end sections of the plate pack.
The reason is always to avoid the formation of non-homogeneous filling areas with different pressure distributions and risk of breakage.
Uneven filling means uneven pressure distribution and therefore a risk of damage or plate breakage.
Constructively, this optional is realized as a branch of the main supply duct of the filter press.
Normally, in fact, the filter press is fed through the fixed head only and the sludge subsequently fills all the filter plates inside them.
For the filter press, double feeding, on the other hand, is used to feed the pack of plates also from the end opposite the fixed head, i.e., from the mobile head.
By doing so, by feeding the sludge from both sides, I can ensure a more effective filling especially for heavier sludges and for longer machines (i.e., with many plates installed).
