Plate filter press is an industrial machine whose purpose is to perform solid-liquid separation of the fluid (often called sludge or slurry) that is pumped into it.

Depending on the field of use, thanks to this technology, either the liquid or the solid (this depends on the type of application) that were mixed together at the beginning of the cycle can be reused.

The filter press therefore performs a solid-liquid separation on the suspended solids (and not on the dissolved solids).

Even if the principle of high-pressure filtration remains the same, there is a great range of filter press types, which are different in terms of materials, degree of automation, type of plates installed, plate opening systems and options.

This essentially depends on the type of fluid to be filtered and the application sector to which it belongs (biological-civil, metallurgical industry, tanning industry, chemical and process industry, mining, ceramics, etc.).

The filter press is a very flexible machine that can be used in various fields of application, for example:

The filter press consists of a frame, a series of plates and filter cloths, a turbid feed system and a filtrate discharge system. The liquid to be filtered (called sludge, slurry or suspension) is pumped into the machine through the use of one or more feed pumps. The plates hold the solid particles while the liquid passes through.

The filtration process takes place by means of pressure applied to the plates, which increases the density of the solid particles inside the filter cloths, allowing the filtered liquid to escape through the drain channels.

Of all the dewatering systems on the market, this is the solution that allows the greatest solid-liquid separation, i.e. it achieves the highest percentage of dry solid in the residual cake (i.e. lower residual moisture).
